Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday, 26 November to celebrate 60 years of education: from the early days of Elwood High, then Elwood Secondary and Elwood College today.
We were delighted by the huge turnout. Hundreds of past students, teachers, Principals and school councillors enjoyed catching up and reminiscing, reading stories of past students and looking through photo albums. Alumni band Coco Chil put on a great gig followed by a speech from Principal Rhonda Holt and performances from current students.
We are in the process of formalising our alumni communications for past students and staff so please tell your friends to register their details at https://www.elwood.vic.edu.au/alumni
Special thanks to the current parents, staff and students who put in so much effort to organising the event. Our parent committee, ably led by Koon Lau, made and served 400 scones at the Devonshire tea, spent hours displaying memorabilia and manned an incredibly busy registrations desk on the day. Former parent and school council president Sue Constable spent more than a year interviewing past students and compiling their stories, which our current school council president Michael Mulcahy transformed into wonderful displays for the event. You can read these stories on our Past Students page.
While the physical setting of the college is changing before our eyes, the anniversary showed that the incredible sense of community at Elwood has been a common theme for six decades. It was wonderful to celebrate that shared history as we enter our seventh decade.
