On the 22nd of May, Elwood College held a Biggest Morning Tea Cake Competition to raise funds for the Cancer Council, producing a diverse array of creative cakes.
The competition was judged by chef and owner of Attica restaurant in Ripponlea Ben Shewry and cook, food critic and cookbook author Dani Valent. James Newbury, Member for Brighton, also dropped in to the school to attend the competition.
The winner of the junior school category was Scarlett Gulliver with her “Pancake Illusion” cake, followed by Sadabh Raftery and Victoria McCarthy in second place with “The Sloth”, and Jasmine and Ella in equal third.
The middle school competition was won by Sayler Delves for her elegant rose cake, followed by Lily Lau in second for her library cake, with a special mention given to Bonnie Grining and Rowan Davey for their “Great Barrier Reef Dying” cake.
Charlotte Millar and Brier McLean won the senior school category with their environmentally-focused cake, “There is no Planet B”.
The staff competition was won by Emily Basemore for her myrtle, manuka and fennel delight cake.
