Join the Parents of Elwood sub committee and make the Grounds Masterplan happen

News

The Parents of Elwood sub committee’s primary aim is to connect parents to the school by encouraging parents to be involved in projects like fundraising, or in supporting teachers in different student programs and events.

We do this in various ways through our monthly meetings, social gatherings and fund raising throughout the year. We have a proud history of supporting student led events like the annual SRC Talent Night, school production and Student Film nights by providing food and serving refreshments on the night.

We are committed to encouraging and promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment and beautifying our grounds. Students and parents worked together in the recent Clean Up Australia Day and other working bees to clean local waterways and  received a $20,000 grant from the Victorian Government Living Water Workbees. This will allow the construction of our rain garden, which not only beautifies the edge of the teacher’s car park but helps to filter run-off water before it returns to the Elwood Canal. The project also includes three vegetable garden beds along the new building.

We are excited about the new plans for the Phoenix Centre which will transform the gym, theatre and outdoor courts into a community hub for the performing arts, sport and recreation. The $12.3 million cost of the Phoenix Centre will be met by a funding consortium comprising the City of Port Phillip, the Bendigo Bank, State and Federal Governments, Department of Education, sports and arts bodies and past and present students and families.

The Parents of Elwood sub committee is currently looking at ways that we can assist to fund raise for the Phoenix Centre, as we know the final stage will only be achieved through a united community effort.

If you would like to get involved, or have ideas for sponsors please email elwood.co@edumail.vic.gov.au Our subcommittee meets once a month at the school, and all new parents are welcome to join us. Contact Kerryn Stubbs, Convenor and School councillor on kegs@bigpond.net.au for more information.
