Basketball Academy

The Elwood College Basketball Academy is an optional, fee-based program offering professional coaching on site before and after school. The academy is proving hugely popular in its first year, with more than 60 students enjoying the sporting and social aspects of the program.

The Academy is a partnership between Elwood College and Chase Basketball (an initiative of Australian Basketball Resources).

Chase Basketball (ABR) conducts leading Basketball Academies in Melbourne, with a curriculum planned by national level coaches and players. Chase coaches are highly engaging and motivated to conduct training sessions that incorporate skill development and personal fitness.

The ECBA head coach is Mike Spears, an American ex-pat who has played professionally in eight different countries (including the Australian National Basketball League) and has coached alongside Michael Jordan. Now dedicated to coaching junior athletes, Mike is also a youth motivational speaker.

The term-based fees for the ECBA are outlined in the information pack attached. Participants are divided into beginner/intermediate or advanced levels, with coaching applied to each student’s point of need. Sessions will be conducted before school, after school and during lunchtimes.

The academy has a strong mentoring component and is designed to complement the student’s academic activities and goals of the school curriculum.
