Year 12 student Ana Burenkova has won awards in two national photography prizes in the past year.
First, she won the Australian Photography 2015 Junior Portrait Photographer of the Year award.
Ana entered three portfolios which were part of a VCE Media Studies project in Year 11.
Five of the six Australian Photography judges awarded Ana first in the category, calling her a "great observer" whose "honest and uncontrived" photos display a "maturity beyond her years".
Ana then won third prize in the 2016 Head On Photo Festival, a prestigious event that draws photographers from all around the world. Ana received her award in front of 1000 guests at Sydney Town Hall in April.
"Sydney was incredible! I had an amazing time at the exhibition launch. My photograph placed 3rd in the student section out of 700 international submissions! I won $780 worth of prizes, including a new Polaroid camera and the complete Adobe Creative Cloud program suite. I really enjoyed looking at all of the other exhibitor's work, as well as meeting and talking to other photographers and the judges. In conclusion, it was a successful trip and I look forward to entering the same competition next year."
Now in her final year, Ana has initiated a new leadership role as our official Elwood College photographer, covering key events and activities for the college newsletter and website. Such great initiative in following her passion!
